Terms of service

The fine print

Terms of service

Agreement to these terms

These are the terms for using the Clean Neighbor website and booking a cleaning with us. By using this site, asking for a quote, or booking a clean, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

They apply to everyone who uses the site, whether or not you go on to book. Our Privacy Policy is part of them, and it explains what we do with the information you give us.

Services

Clean Neighbor provides residential house cleaning in Bergen County, New Jersey: standard cleaning, deep cleaning, recurring cleaning, move in and move out cleaning, and Airbnb turnover cleaning. You tell us about your home, we review the details and text you a fair, flat price, and you decide whether to book.

Services depend on availability and can vary by town. We may change, pause, or stop offering a service, and we may decline a job that is outside what we cover.

Who you are dealing with

Your agreement for the clean is with Clean Neighbor. You book with us, you pay us, and if something goes wrong you come to us. You do not have to chase the individual who cleaned your home. We choose who comes, we set the price, and we are responsible to you for the work.

Who can use this site

You need to be at least 18 and able to enter into a contract to book a cleaning with us. We serve homes in Bergen County, New Jersey, so we can only take bookings for addresses in the towns we cover. If you are booking for a home that is not yours, you confirm you have permission to arrange a cleaning there.

Using this site

By using this site or asking for a quote, you agree to these terms. Please give us accurate details about your home and your contact information so we can price your clean correctly and reach you. You agree to use the site for its intended purpose, which is booking a home cleaning.

Please do not use this site for anything unlawful, try to interfere with how it works, or send false or misleading information through our forms.

Booking and scheduling

You can book through this site or by phone. Please give us accurate details about your home and how to reach you, because your price and the cleaner we send are both set from what you tell us.

A booking is not confirmed until we send you a confirmation by text or email. Please make sure your cleaner can get in at the scheduled time, whether that means being home, leaving a key, or giving us a code.

Keys, codes and getting in

You never have to give us a key or a code. If you do, we pass it only to the cleaner assigned to your visit. We do not keep it by default: we will ask whether we may save it for future visits, and unless you say yes we destroy it once the visit is done. If you say yes, we keep it only while you are on a recurring plan, and we destroy it when the plan ends. Ask us to delete it at any time and we will. We also ask that you give us a guest or one-time code rather than a master code wherever your lock offers one.

Quotes and pricing

After you tell us about your home, we text you a flat price for the cleaning before you book. That price is set from your home size, the type of clean, and any extras you add. It is a price for the cleaning itself, not a total.

New Jersey sales tax of 6.625% is added to that price, so what you pay is the quoted price plus tax. We show you both before you confirm, and your receipt lists the cleaning and the tax on separate lines. We will not add anything else you did not agree to.

When you confirm a booking you give us a payment card, and you authorize us to charge that card for the quoted price plus tax. We charge it 48 hours before your visit, or straight away if you book inside 48 hours. You also authorize the cancellation and lockout fees below if they apply. We email you an itemized receipt for every charge, and we will not charge your card for anything else without asking you first. If you think a charge is wrong, call us at (201) 551-0001 within 60 days and we will look into it.

Text messages

If you check the text box on our quote form, you agree to receive text messages from Clean Neighbor at the number you gave us. These are messages about your cleaning: booking confirmations, reminders, a note when your cleaner is on the way, review requests, and alerts if something changes, such as a cleaner who cannot make it. Message frequency varies by booking. Message and data rates may apply.

Reply STOP at any time to opt out, or HELP for help. Consent to texts is never required to get a quote or to book a cleaning. If you do not opt in, we email or call you instead. We do not share your mobile number or your text opt-in with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing.

The happiness promise

We want you happy with your clean. If something is not right, tell us within 24 hours of your visit. We make it right, with a credit or a re-clean by a different cleaner. Clean Neighbor pays for the re-clean; your original cleaner is not charged for it. This promise covers the quality of the clean. It is not a blanket money-back guarantee, and it does not cover normal wear, pre-existing damage, or things outside a cleaner’s control.

Cancellations and changes

If you cancel or reschedule less than 24 hours before your start time, the fee is $25. If your cleaner arrives inside your scheduled window, waits 30 minutes, and calls you twice with no answer and no way in, that is a lockout and the fee is $50. If they can get in late, or you reach us inside those 30 minutes, there is no fee. If we cancel on you inside 24 hours, or your cleaner does not arrive within 60 minutes of your window, we credit you $25 the same way round. Fees are not services, so no sales tax is added to them.

Recurring plans

If you book a weekly, biweekly or monthly plan, we schedule your visits ahead and charge your card for each one on the same 48-hour schedule. Your plan discount is yours as you go: if you stop, we do not go back and re-bill you at the one-time rate for cleans you already had. There is no clawback and no early-termination fee.

Cancel a plan any time by calling us or replying to any booking text. Tell us at least 24 hours before your next visit and there is nothing to pay. Skipping a single visit is free with 24 hours’ notice and does not affect your plan or your discount. If we ever change your plan price, we will text you at least 14 days before it takes effect and you can cancel with no fee.

If something gets damaged

Tell us within 24 hours of your visit if something was damaged during a clean, and send photos if you can, so we can look into it while the details are fresh. For a move in, move out, or Airbnb turnover clean, where you may not see the home for a while, tell us within 24 hours of when you or your guest first sees it, and in any case within 14 days of the visit. We will come back to you within 2 business days with what we can do.

We cannot cover normal wear, anything that was already damaged or worn, items that are fragile by nature, or anything that was not properly secured. Please put away cash, jewelry, art, collectibles, and anything of unusual value before your visit. Our responsibility for any single claim is limited to the price of the clean it relates to.

Those limits do not apply, and nothing in these terms limits what we owe, for death or injury to any person caused by our negligence or the negligence of a cleaner we send, for theft or fraud, for gross negligence, or for any intentional or reckless act.

Your responsibilities

To help your clean go smoothly, please make sure your cleaner can get into your home at the scheduled time, and let us know up front about anything special, like pets, alarm codes, allergies, or products you want used or avoided. Please secure any cash, jewelry, or fragile valuables before your visit.

Prohibited activities

Please do not use this site for anything unlawful, interfere with how it works or how anyone else uses it, or try to reach parts of it that are not meant to be public.

Please do not send us false or misleading information, use the site to harvest other people’s details, copy it with automated tools, or use it to advertise anything of your own. We may refuse or end service if you do.

Your reviews and submissions

Anything you send us to get help, such as photos of damage or a description of a problem, is used only to handle your request. We never use it in marketing. A review or a piece of feedback is different: you still own it, and you give us permission to show it on this site and in our marketing with your first name and town, for as long as you are happy for us to. Tell us to take it down and we will, within 5 business days.

Please only send things you have the right to send. Do not send anything unlawful, misleading, or offensive, or anything containing someone else’s private information. We can decline or remove anything sent to us.

Intellectual property

The words, images, logo, and design on this site belong to Clean Neighbor and are protected by copyright and trademark law. Please ask us in writing before you copy, republish, or change any of it.

Clean Neighbor and our logo are our trademarks. Nothing on this site gives you a licence to use them, or to use anything else here, beyond browsing the site and booking a cleaning.

Third-party links and services

This site links to other websites, and we use outside providers to take payments and send messages. We do not control them, and we are not responsible for their content, their products, or how they handle your information. Their own terms and privacy policies apply when you deal with them.

Disclaimers

We work to keep this site accurate and available, but we provide it as it is. We do not promise it will always be available, error free, or free of anything harmful, and we do not promise that everything on it is complete and current at every moment.

New Jersey law sets limits on what we can ask you to give up, so here is exactly where we stand. These parts apply in full in New Jersey: the cancellation and lockout fees, the limit on what we owe for property damage, the choice of New Jersey law and Bergen County courts, and the intellectual property section. These parts do not apply in New Jersey and we do not rely on them here: any limit on our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence or that of a cleaner we send, any limit for theft, fraud, gross negligence, or any intentional or reckless act, and any waiver of your rights under the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act. We do not disclaim our duty to do your clean with reasonable care and in a workmanlike manner.

Limitation of liability

We cannot promise that a service will be perfect or uninterrupted. Clean Neighbor is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost income or the cost of alternative accommodation. These limits are the only limits on what we owe you, and if any other part of these terms appears to limit it differently, this section governs.

The people we send

Before a cleaner takes their first Clean Neighbor job, we require government-issued identification, a criminal background check, and a current certificate of liability insurance, which we re-check each year. A cleaner’s insurance is theirs, not yours: you are not a named insured on it, and we cannot promise that a given policy will pay a given claim. If something is damaged, deal with us. What we owe you is set out above and does not depend on anyone else’s insurance paying out.

Indemnification

If someone else brings a claim against us because you broke these terms, for example you asked us to clean a home you had no right to arrange access to, you agree to cover our reasonable, documented costs and any damages we have to pay, up to $10,000. This applies only to claims brought by someone other than you or us. It does not apply to anything caused by our own negligence or by a cleaner we send, and it does not apply if you were not at fault. If a claim like that comes in we will tell you promptly, let you take part in defending it, and we will not settle it without your written agreement.

Suspending or ending service

We can refuse, pause, or end service, and we can cancel a booking, if you break these terms, if we cannot do the work safely or lawfully, if the home is outside the area we cover, or if the details you gave us turn out to be wrong. Where we can, we tell you first, and we refund anything you paid for work we did not do.

Governing law and disputes

These terms, and any dispute between us about these terms, about a clean, or about a charge, are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey. Either of us can bring a claim in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Law Division, Bergen County, or in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.

Nothing here stops either of us using the Small Claims Section of the Special Civil Part, and for most disagreements that is the fastest and cheapest place to go. Before either of us files anything, please call us at (201) 551-0001 and give us 30 days to sort it out. We will do the same for you.

Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have, including how text messaging works and how to stop it. It is part of these terms, so please read it too.

General terms

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest of them still applies. If we do not enforce something straight away, that does not mean we have given up the right to enforce it later.

Your agreement with us is made up of these terms, the price we texted you, your booking confirmation, and the description of the service you booked. If those ever disagree, the texted price and your booking confirmation win, then the service description, then these terms. We may transfer these terms to another company if our business is sold or reorganised. You may not transfer them without our written permission.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of the page. If you keep using the site after a change, that means you accept the updated terms.
